Hi! I’m Roisin Rafferty, the eye behind RiffRaff PhotoArt. Photography and art are my twin passions and I don't believe that they should be treated as separate. As artist-photographer I aim to capture the beauty in the banal and celebrate the absurd in the ordinary. I see magic around me every day and would like to share some of it with you through this website.
Magic can be found anywhere, especially where we least expect it. For me it is often in the order that underlies the chaos or in the way that light and shadow work together to write intoxicating visual rhythms. At other times it’s in a delicious irony, a combination of colours or the way the sun glints off the water.
I grew up in Northern Ireland, currently live in Italy, and, as you'll see from the photos, have travelled a bit in between times.
I take a delight in presenting unusual views of well-known places; in fact, all the photos on the website are defined by the place they were taken but none of them show the famous sights (at least not in their normal light). At the same time, though, they could not have been taken anywhere else. Likewise, people are often treated simply as compositional elements, but their individuality and beauty are heightened when part of a harmonious whole.
That’s the RiffRaff PhotoArt philosophy in a nutshell; if you want to know more, just email!
